The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) rates fire departments based on three factors:
1) the available water supply
2) fire alarm and communication systems
3) fire fighting capabilities
A rating of 1 indicates the lowest risk of structural damage due to a fire; a rating of 10 indicates the highest risk.
For those parcels that are within 1,000 feet of a rated hydrant (one that has the ability to flow a minimum of 250 gallons per minute for two hours) have a rating of 5. The hydrants that are attached to the community water systems in our district meet the minimum criteria of a rated hydrant. For those parcels that are not within 1,000 feet of a rated hydrant, their rating is an 8B.
